The measures of the Act 1956 introduced by Sinhalese Government made the Sri Lankan Tamils feel alienated.

(i) They felt that none of the major political parties led by the Buddhist Sinhalese were sensitive to their language and culture.

(ii) They also felt that the constitutions and government policies denied them equal political rights.

(iii) Thus, they realised that government has discriminate against them in getting jobs and other opportunities by ignoring their interests.

(iv) As a result, the relations between the Sinhalese and Tamil communities strained over time.

Due to the " majoritarian" policy by the Sri Lankan government; this policy gave rights to only sinhala speakers. The Sri Lankan Tamilians were deprived of rights in government jobs, university or colleges. The Sinhalis on the other hand were given such priorities that the tamilians were deprived of. Sinhala was also declared as the national language of Sri Lanka by the act of majoritarianism 1956, which led to the feeling of alienation in  sri lankan tamils.
