Why did suzane not tell the author about her injuries

When asked why she had not complained about her injuries earlier, she replied that she had not wanted to worry her parents when they were trying to save them all. ... However, she never mentioned the deep cut in her arm because she didn't want her father to worry about her when he was trying to save everybody else.
