The Britishers used to tax the American colonies heavily. Soon the colonists became fed up and angry. The matters came to a head when the colonists demanded the right to have a say in matters affecting them. They argued that the British Parliament had no right to tax the colonists since they had no representatives in the British Parliament. " No Taxation Without Representation " became the clarion call of the colonists.
