About Red Fort

The Red fort was constructed by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan and was his court palace, till the British took over India.

During the 1857 rebellion, the Mughals took hold of the red fort but were again defeated by the British.  

Enraged by the rebellion, the British destroyed all the valuables and the art and architecture of the red fort as it was the seat of power during the rebellion.

- All precious stones were taken away.  

- The halls and gardens were destroyed.

- The beautiful Furniture s were broken.

- The outer walls were not destroyed.

- It was converted into a hospital and was used as a garrison by the British.
