Why did the attitude of the colonial govt towards the freedom of the press change after the revolt of 1857?what repressive measures were put in place?

They passed the vernacular press act which checked that whatever was printed was not against the colonial government.
If any seditious report was published then the press was seized and printing machinery confiscated.
