The author expected to hear from Mrs. Pumphrey very soon because her pet dog, Trickie appeared to be very sick. He had grown abnormally fat; his eyes were watery, and his tongue lolled out. he looked quite uncomfortable.
Tricki’s problem was the pampering attitude of Mrs. Pumphrey, his owner. In her affection and love for her pet, she gave her sweet food, Horlicks, cream cakes, chocolates, etc. as many times as the dog demanded. This sweet and fatty food made Tricki enormously fat.
