why did the author opt for such a risky voyage

The author was inspired by Captain James Cooks expedition around the world, 200 years ago. Thus he embarked on a trip on his Wavewalker boat to emulate the voyage, with his family. The difficulties on the trip taught the author that optimism, unity and trust can aid in overcoming any obstacle.
