Rock and roll and Elvis put many nails in the coffin once the 50's rolled in. also, it was getting more expensive to maintain a large group. Dance halls were starting to close down as well. And people were getting older. The younger generation wanted something new and Elvis fit the bill. Once the beatles hit soon after it was all over.
