Siraj Ud Daula was the Nawab of Bengal, Bihar and Orissa during the British rule in India. In order to bring the Bengal under the control of EIC, Robert Clive bribed Mir Jaffar who served as the Army General of Siraj Ud Daula.

After acknowledging the treason of Mir Jaffar, Siraj Ud Daula had indulged in rigorous campaign against the British Raj which lead to the Battle of Plassey. Siraj Ud Daula was killed by the company and Mir Jaffar proceeded as the new dependent Nawab of Bengal.

There were several reasons which kept the Nawab upset from British.

• The Nawab was furious at the involvement and instigation on the part of the Company towards his court members to ousted him.
• The Nawab strongly opposed the Company`s idea of fortification around the Fort William without prior intimation or his approval. The Britishers didi not pay any heed to his opposition and kept on the process of fortification.
• The trade privileges granted to the Company by the Mughal rulers were wrongly practice and misused. This led to an erosion of revenue for the Govenment.
• The Company tried to shield some officers who were charged with misappropriation of government funds.

This led to the clash between the two forces.
