Why did the British divide Bengal and what were it's result

The British followed a system of powerful tactics called "Divide and Rule." this is to prevent them from growing developed or perhaps to cut away ties from the past and hence control the future. It may also be due to their own disagreements with the Indian government as well which is also the reason Pakistan has left India's cause.
