British had to struggle to capture Mysore due to the following reasons:

1) The ruler of Mysore, at the advent of Britishers, was Haider Ali, a very strong and powerful ruler.

2) The troops of Britishers though huge in number could not face the clever and well-trained soldiers of Haider Ali.

3) The Britishers had to fight four wars with the Rulers of Mysore and only after that they were able to capture Mysore.

4) After Haider Ali, his son Tipu Sultan became the ruler of Mysore and he was known as the 'Tiger of Mysore' due to his immense power and cleverness. It was difficult for Britishers to win over Mysore during his reign.
