Answer:

On the contrary, the Britishers continued to extract profits which broke the knees of Indian agricultural sector. The major cause of this sorry state of Indian agriculture was the various land settlement systems of the colonial government.

Answer:

the British did so because they considered india a producer of raw materials which was bought at very low price and transferred to England where they used to make ready factory made products and sell it in India at a very high cost.So directly or indirectly they were exploitating the Indian markets and agriculture. The cultivators were forced to grow cash crops because the zamindars or tenants had imposed a very high loan for these poor cultivators and so to meet the loan demands they were forced to grow cash crops.Due to which the demand and use of the food crops declined largely and indigo (a cash crop) had a particular feature which was of damaging the soil where it grew that is if the cultivator grew Indigo then he had to grow indigo because the soil wouldn't be suitable for any other crop...I hope this would help, any spelling error please ignore it and ya please let me know whether it was helpful or not
