The British introduced the railway system in India because they felt the need for a fast and quick transportation to carry the raw materials across the country easily which was needed by them. Hope this helps!

Reasons to introduce Railways in India:

i. In India there was a variety of sources of raw materials. To carry these sources British needed some way to transport these raw materials into their country. Therefore, they developed railway line which was a source of profit for British Economy.

ii. Railway was the only source to transport large number of people during British Government. For example- Movement of British army form one place to another.

iii. It was also a fast and quick mode of transportation to sell and buy goods and products.
