The reasons for which the British introduced railways in India are as follows:
• They wanted a quick means of transportation for carrying the goods and raw materials to distant places.
• Many food crops used to get destroyed by the time they reached the destination through horse carriages or bullock carts so a faster means of transport was essential
• Selling of goods became faster which increased the net profit of the British
