\rm\red{Why \: did \: the \: British \: need \: a \: large \: army?}

The British needed a large army to

  • conquer more territories,

  • protect British territories from their rivals,

  • protect the trading interests of the company, and

  • suppress internal revolts against the British.

\rm\red{Describe\: the\: British \: army.}

The British army was a well - trained and disciplined force. The sepoys ( Indian soldiers were called sepoys ) were armed with muskets . Muskets were type of guns with a long barrel.

They were also paid a regular salary. They sepoys were very loyal to their British masters. However they were very conscious of their caste and religion.
