why did the British preserve official documents?

British preserve official records because they thought that the records should be properly debited in future or two get the correct informations about official works..

British believes that the act of writing was important,. Hence they got written up every instructions, plans, policy, decisions, agreement, investigation etc. They brought that once this was done, things could be properly studied and debated.
