The british required help from indians in World war 2 in matter of troops and support against Japan. Therefore, the British Prime Minister sent sir Stafford Cripps to India to seek help of indian leaders. Cripps worked to keep India loyal to the British war effort in exchange for a promise of dominion status once the war was over. This was called the cripps mission. however it was rejected by the indian national congress and muslim league.
