hey mate,

here is your answer,

Go back to the 14th century ,Portuguese explorer Vasco de Gama becomes the first European to reach India via the Atlantic Ocean when he arrives at Calicut on the Malabar Coast.

Da Gama sailed from Lisbon, Portugal, in July 1497, rounded the Cape of Good Hope, and anchored at Malindi on the east coast of Africa. With the aid of an Indian merchant he met there, he then set off across the Indian Ocean. The Portuguese explorer was not greeted warmly by the Muslim merchants of Calicut, and in 1499 he had to fight his way out of the harbor on his return trip home. In 1502, he led a squadron of ships to Calicut to avenge the massacre of Portuguese explorers there and succeeded in subduing the inhabitants. In 1524, he was sent as viceroy to India, but he fell ill and died in Cochin.

THE FRENCH

The French came India in 1664, and took over Pondicherry , Karaikal, Mahe,

Yenam and Chandranagar(West Bengal) with Pondicherry as capital

Later In 1756 war broke out between France and Great Britain, and Colonel Robert clive of the British east India company and admiral Charles Watson of the British navy bombarded and captured Chandranagar on 23 March 1757.

  • In both the cases , the Portuguese and french came to India before the British .

  • Britain came in the 1600s (with Sir Thomas Roe) when India was under the rule of Jehangir. India was a stronger nation back then. ... The Mughal rulers were badly defeated and that signalled to the world that India was very weak. The East India Company immediately latched on and made use of the weakness.

  • The British presence in India began through trade. Men like Robert Clive, of the British East India Company, combined military prowess with a ruthless ambition, and became fabulously wealthy. With wealth came power, and traders took control of huge swaths of India.

Just like french and portuguese they too came india for trade and don’t want to fight between them . later , after World War II , india got independence and rest is history.

hope this helps you.
