The colonial government banned canal transportation as it was economically unfeasible. They were bearing losses and the venture wasn’t as successful as compared to the Railways. Also once on 29 November 1933, goods were delivered by the SS Watchfels to karanchi , were the property of the Afghan government and also contained ammunition and other weapons. These goods belonged to Abdul Hadi Khan who was ex- foreign minister to Germany. It wasn’t illegal to carry arms and ammunition but the way they were carried, without any declaration was considered as a break of a treaty.
