Why did the colonial government start commercial forestry in India? Give any three reasons.

1)There were need for the British to build ships and railway where the raw materials from the forest were to be used.
2)Local people extensively used the forests hence destroying them.This caused worry and forced them to invite a German expert Brandis for advice who was made the first Inspector General of forest in India.
3)Proper system had to be used and people had to be trained on ways of forest conservation.Thus rules about use of forest resources were introduced by Brandis.
