The Dandi Salt March took place at Sabarmati Ashram on March 12th, 1930. The Dandi Salt March, led by Mahatma Gandhi, started because the government was controlling the making and selling of salt and everyone had to pay a salt tax. Gandhi and many other people thought that the salt tax was unfair to the people.

On March 12, 1930, Mahatma Gandhi embarked Dandi March from Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat to the village of Dandi in the state's coastal area to protest against the additional tax levied by the British government on salt.
