Djinn was in-change of all deserts. So the horse, ox and the dog complained to him about the camel's laziness. The Djinn scolded the camel, gave a hump on its back and ordered it to serve man as did other animals.

Because camel is an animal that lives in desert. It cannot get food or water all the times. So when it gets food it eats more than it could digest and stores it in the form of fats in its hump. When it meets scarcity of food it uses the fats stored in its hump.
