The framers of our constitution were aware of the fact that various inequalities existed in our society at the time of independence. Certain groups of people in India have experienced inequalities and discrimination for ages. They felt that now that India will have it's own government, it should be the duty of the government to ensure equality to all sections of our society. With this aim in mind, they laid down certain provisions in the Constitution of India which upholds the principle of equality.
