The Franks had to whisper and walk lightly in the house during daytime because they were hiding from the Jews. The Jews were there where Anne was living with her family. Many Jews were killed in the camps and the number was increasing with the passage of time. Anne and her family were also Jews and they were not allowed to talk loudly in order to escape from being killed by the Nazis.

The Franks had to be very careful not to be caught by the Germans. They had covered all the windows with thick curtains. Their hideout was above a warehouse. So they had to be extra quiet during the day. They had to talk in whispers and go about barefoot so that they could walk softly. At night the people working in the business below went home, then they could relax a little but still be careful.
