the French rulers constructed Canal in Vietnam in order to increase the production of rice to earn better profits and subsequently Vietnam became the third largest exporter of rice in the world

the French wanted to irrigate the Mekong Delta region for increasing the production of rice in that area...
so they constructed wide networks of canals in this region ( Vietnam)
