Grandmother Ameena cried at the end of the story 'Eidgah' because she was touched by Hamid's act of buying a pair of tongs for her.
Hamid had gone to the Eidgah fair with his friends. While the other children bought toys and sweets, Hamid spent the little money that he had, on a pair of tongs. He remembered that his grandmother's fingers often got burnt while cooking. Ameena was very touched by Hamid's selflessness and caring attitude. He stayed thirst and hungry all day and also showed excellent control over his desires. He did not buy any food, drink or toy as children normally do, but bought a gift for his grandmother, Ameena. This made her very emotional and she cried.
