Because people in earlier considered it a taboo to send girls to schools, this trend is changing now but the scars will take some time to go away.

The Grandma never went to school because literacy rather education for women those days where considered important or useless as there was a notion in the society that they are only to get married, have and look after the kids , do household works and maintain or take care of the house and educating them was thought to be a waste of resources as well as money
