Arches are there from 6000 B.C i.e from the time of Sumerians. It might be an injustice to say that Romans invented the Arch. What Romans did with the arches is, they revolutionized its use and technology. Using their invention “The Concrete” Romans reinforced the Arch. As we all know the key to strength of an arch is, that the Voussoirs, Imposts, Springers and the Key stone should fit and hold together tightly. Romans with their concrete, filled the seams between these members made of stone thus, increasing the durability of the Arch. with this new intervention of concrete, the load placed above was evenly distributed thus, increasing the stability of the spanned space.
