Answer :-

The hunters of Halgali village were revolt because they refused to submit their weapons to the British.

Halgali was a small village in which most of the residents lived by hunting wild beasts, birds and selling forest products.

The East Indian company announced on 11th September 1857 that all Indians should submit their weapons but the hunters of Halgali village were refused to surrender their weapons such as axe, pick-axe, knife etc to the company. Thereafter British attack them so they revolt.

The hunters of Halagali revolted due to the following reasons :

• the introduction of the Disarming Act of 1857, under which every person had to get their arms and ammunition registered and had to obtain a licence for the same. This Act made the tribe feel that their ancestral right of keeping the arms with them was being snatched away from them by the British.

• the people were not allowed to roam freely and were questioned for every work they did. In short, there was a complete restriction on their liberty.

• the land that they owned was taken away from them and hunting was their main occupation which was also getting disrupted by the Britishers.
