The Indian National Congress demanded Poorna swaraj in 1929

  • The demand for Poorna swaraj was passed in the Lahore session of 1929
  • It was made under the leadership of Jawaharlal Nehru
  • They declared that attaining Poorna Swaraj will be the prime goal of freedom fights

The several reasons that led the demand of INC from swaraj to poornaswaraj include:

  • They demanded the British to leave India forever because of the cruelty and atrocities done by them
  • The British were trying to implement the divide and rule policy in various parts of our country
  • This was not acceptable by any of the parties or social leaders
  • The British were trying to exploit the country by looting all our treasures
  • Even though the Simon Commission was appointed to study the needs and demands of India none of Indians were appointed in that commission
  • And this was not acceptable by the Indian people and great protest occurred against this
  • In that protest the revolutionary leader Lala Lajpat Rai was seriously injured and he died
  • The Indians were not given the dominion status even though the British offered it
