Opposition of railways and telegraphs in India:
- Indians were and still in some parts of the country very strict regarding caste-rules and social orders.
- When the telegraphs and railways were introduced in India, the Indians feared that these were introduced to spread Christianity.
- The people also resented in the introduction of railways because inside the carriage of the train, people of both upper and lower class would have to sit and travel together which was unacceptable to the people from the high caste.
- Also, they thought that the telegraph poles were used for hanging those who went against the British rule.
