The British showed a very harsh and brutal behavior towards the indigo cultivators as these cultivators had to work in very bad condition and if they grew any other thing in their fields they have to be punished for it.

The indigo cultivators in bengal rebelled in the mid eighteenth century due to following grievances :---
# They were paid low prices for their produce.
#They were not allowed to sow any other crops.
#They were mistreated by indigo planters.
Angered by their condition the indigo cultivators rebelled. The government set up an indigo commission to look after the grievances of the indigo farmers .All this however was an eyewash .The planter shifted from bengal to bihar . Exploitation of the poor indigo farmers comtinued . In this sense the movement was a failure.
