Ali was very hungry, but the innkeeper did not allow him saying that he is a beggar. He thought of smelling the soup so that could control his hunger. He went near the bowl in which soup was boiling at that time. Noticing this, the innkeeper rushed there.
Though Ali requested that he did not taste the soup, the innkeeper said he needed to pay for smelling his soup and took Ali to the court.
