Why did the kabuliwala offer nuts and raisins ?is there any profit making motif in offering nuts and raisins?why do you think so

Mini feared that the kabuliwala was a cruel man and had some children in his huge bag. So the kabuliwala gave her the nuts n raisins as a way to overcome her fear, 'a judicious bribery of nuts and almonds' as mentioned by the author. He wanted to make friends with Mini, as Mini reminded him of her own daughter back in Afghanistan. :)
