Why did the king of France called the meeting of estate general?

In old France the king alone could not take descision on the tax laws. So it was important for the king to held a meeting of estate general in which all the three group of the France had one vote and on the basis of majority the new tax law was to pass. This time the tax law was to increase the tax.

The king of France called the meeting of estate general because he wants to increase taxes and the king alone can't take the decision he needs the approval of other estate generals
