The prince had given the two sapphires of his eyes for the poor. Now he was completely blind. The swallow was a kind hearted creature. He could not leave the prince in that state and decided to live with him forever and gave up it's idea to going to Egypt. The swallow was every inch like the Happy Prince. The swallow also stayed with him during the cold nights and eventually died because of the ice - cold winter.
