Jerry Fisher was was trainer of Bramble who was scheduled to fight his boxing bout the next Monday.
Major's attempts were.

He was not afraid of anybody and even told Harold about his father’s profession that he is not a commercial traveler but a professional boxer.
When Bramble asserted his decision not to fight he tried to convince him by reminding him about his purse, he told him to think of all swells that will be coming to see him and told him to think of the trouble he had taken for the last weeks.
But Bramble ,whose win was almost guaranteed, was concerned about his son Harold and was ready sacrifice his flourishing boxing career for his son.

Major convinced Bramble in many ways, he always wanted that Bramble should not play the match. The only one major reason was thst he convinced bramble in such a way that he told him if Bramble fought the match, there would be newspapers, emails etc with bramble's picture in it which HAROLD checks his mails everyday and could watch his picture. (and bramble never wanted harold to know about his profession. ) This was one of the major reasons.
HOPE THIS HELPS YOU.
