Why did the man offer to buy things for the child?

After getting separated from his parents, the child started to cry. A man came forward to help the child. He distracted the child from crying by offering him all the attractive things in the fair. But the opposite happened. The child longed for his parents and the things offered to him. He wanted to reach to his parents and feel the love. The material things do not provide him the love and warmth which the presence of the parents brings.
