Why did the mariners hail the arrival of the albatross?

mariner just say holla to call albatross and ..
day by day he become so friendly of all on the boat ..they greeted him when he come and sit on any corner of the ship

they provide food and play with them

The albatross came gliding through the fog the shipment who had not seen a single soul be it of another human or animal and had grow morose suddenly felt hopeful
