why did the mariners hang the albatross around the neck of the ancient mariner?

"The water, like a witch's oils,/ Burnt green, and blue, and white.." what does this mean?

What is the narrator trying to convey through the description of situation in the 10th & 11th stanza?

THE MARINERS HUNG THE DEAD ALBATROSS AROUND THE NECK OF THE ANCIENT MARINER TO PUNISH HIM. IT WILL KEEP ON REMINDING HIM ALL THE TIME ABOUT THE WRONG HE HAD DONE.

IN THE 10th STANZA, THE POET IS PRESENTING A PICTURE OF DECAY AND ROT. THESE DECAY ARE NOT CONFINED TO THE SURFACE ONLY BUT WENT VERY DEEP OF THE OCEAN. SLIMY THINGS CRAWLED UP ON THE MUDDY AND STICKY SEA. IN THE 11th STANZA, THE POET INDRODUCED SUPERNATURAL THINGS. "THE DEATH FIRES DANCED AT NIGHT","THE WATER BURNT GREEN, BLUE AND WHITE LIKE A WITCH'S OIL.
