The story River Bank by Kenneth Grahame, the author wants to show his readers about the beauty and freedom which can be obtained by leaving suffocating cities and finding comfort in the pastoral land (country side)
Explanation:
- In the story it is springtime, while Mole is conducting his yearly spring cleaning around his underground burrow home. All of a sudden, he is struck by a feeling of unhappiness, and instantly tunnels his way out of the Earth and comes onto the field. Feeling the sunshine on his fur and hearing the birds chirp, he realises that he has spent much time underground, particularly during such as good weather. The mole then decides to explore his surroundings
- Mole never travels around nature, but prefers to stick to his own domestic comfort (his underground home). His desire to leave the comfort of his life is therefore significant. It is also necessary, for whatever cause, that Mole leaves his house, not for any rational reason, but solely on impulse. The idea is that we are naturally drawn towards nature; we must be willing to follow that impulse, if we need to find the happiness it affords
