as the were the same as the monkeys but smaller in size .

Monkey is kidding with squirrel because the squirrel is smaller than the monkey. Monkey is laughing at the thought that this little squirrel can not work properly.
Because Monkey was helping Lord Rama to build a stone bridge. But it is not possible to create that bridge for a squirrel.
