Why did the narrator call her grandmother "Avva"in the story (How I taught my grandmother to read )?

The story took place in Karnataka and there they used to speak Kannada language..

In Kannada "Avva" means "mother"..

The narrator thought her grandmother as mother and so she called her as AVVA..
