The narrator missed the train and went back to Anil's room because Anil's goodness had transformed him . His conscience pricked him .
Apart from this , Anil had promised him how to write full sentences and to add numbers. He was feeling very guilty not because he had stolen the money but because he had broken the trust of Anil. He wants to be educated and live a peaceful life. For all these reasons he returned back to Anil .
