the narrator did not speak to the boys on there return journey because,
Narrator thought, Nicola and jackopo did not want to reveal out their truth, they wanted to keep their secret alive.
if narrator speak with boys, then reaction from the boys were quite embarrassing.
hence, narrator did not speak with them, while their returning journey.

Earlier when the narrator asked the two boys about their plans they did not replied properly. When the narrator comes to know about the secret he did not wanted to interfere in their personal things. Also he did not wanted the two boys to know that he now knows the secret.
