Because the address (given in chap of Mrs.Dorling) it had all the precious belonging of her mother.The narrator and her mother had been the victim of war when lootings took place freely.In a similar event the narrator's mom has lost all her belongings to Mrs Dorling After the liberation when the narrator visits Mrs Dorling and introduces herself as Mrs S's daughter the lady refuses to recognize her She doesn't even allow her to enter inside the house
But in her second visit,in the absence of Mrs Dorling the narrator is entertained by her daughter the narrator saw all the possessions of her mom that she remembered from her childhood this shocked her beyond measures the narrator realises that she didn't want to remember 'em anymore as they've lost their value by being in a strange surrounding from their earlier surrounding she finally resolves to forget the address

The narrator 'Marga Minco' in the story ' The Address' . She came to Mrs Dorling's house to recollect the belonging of her mother. No doubt they aroused nostalgic of former times. But she didn't long to possess them now. Their true owner was no more in the world. It was better to forgot them and the uncharitable Mrs Dorling. She also wanted to forgot the address which symbolised a tragic past.
