Earlier the narrator did not order anything for himself except mutton chop, which was the cheapest thing on the menu but when he observed that the situation was beyond his control as the lady was ordering expensive food items one after the other, he became past caring. He stopped thinking about the bill, which had exceeded beyond his expectation, so he thought that ordering a coffee for himself won't make much difference
