Hari Singh (the narrator) was a thief and he also thought that Anil would simply waste his money on his friends. So, he stole the money and decided to catch the express train. He counted the notes and saw that it was six hundred rupees. Moreover, he thought that he could live like an old-rich Arab for a week or two. But then a thought struck in his mind that he could not be able to learn to read and write. He also thought about Anil who could become sad to know about the loss of trust. Only Anil could teach him to write whole sentences, to educate him and make Hari Singh a successful man in future. So, he chose to go back to Anil and return his money. Hence, he stopped to do the wrong thing and tried to become an honest man.
