The narrator urged the old man, because he felt pity for him and was striked by humbleness for that man. The air strike was going to take place soon and so the narrator urged him to cross the bridge and get to the safe side.

The narrator urged the old man to fasten his pase and to go gar away from that bridge to a safer place and save his remaining life...as the enemy troops were marching ahead and soon he will be killed if he doesn't move. The old man didn't accepted his advice and chose to resign his life on to his fate
