The Britishers introduced a revenue system in which peasants have to pay high amount of land revenue or their lands would be taken away from them. They used oppressive methods to collect land revenue & force the peasants to borrow money from moneylenders.

Secondly, the prices were determined by the international markets, so whenever demand would increase peasants were bound to take loans just in a order to get to the high prices to fulfill their daily requirements..
